Accountability

Picture

He’s everywhere...

In a political role, accountability is the acknowledgment and assumption of responsibility for actions, decisions and policies and the obligation to explain and be answerable for resulting consequences.

Our constituents expect us to stand up for what we believe in, rather than persue a politically convenient position.

If accountability equates to accessibility, Tony Van Bynen must be the most accessible and accountable mayor in Newmarket’s history.

He's the Mayor in the Square, the only mayor in Canada who sits on a park bench in the Town Square, the Farmer’s Market or the Library to meet, greet and have discussions with anyone who drops by. Scheduled events are posted on the Town’s Website, but you will find him ready for a conversation on weekends at the Farmer’s Market, in Downtown Newmarket and numerous community events as well.

Constituents can contact him in a wide variety of other ways to ask questions, express concerns, pass on approval, or get information on neighbourhood issues.

He has a website (www.vanbynen.ca) and he’s on Twitter – his Tweets are uploaded to his website and can be followed there. There’s a Tony Van Bynen blog, again available through his website, and he’s on Facebook, so constituents can become his Facebook friend and stay in touch that way.

An e-mail (tony@vanbynen.ca) will reach him and he has promised to always respond. To set up a live online chat, try MSN The Mayor, again it can be done through the website.

And of course the more traditional methods are still available: telephone (905) 895-5193 for his office, (905) 898-2876 for his home office, and (905) 953-5102 for his fax.

On top of all those methods of communication, the mayor has already attended over 200 public meetings this term.

If none of the above are to your taste, write a letter to The Mayor's office in the town hall at 395 Mulock Dr. L3Y 4X7
