On June 17th, I had the honour of participating in the York Pride Parade. It was a wonderful celebration with our York Region Liberal family and members of our community.
After the parade, I was proud to join Minister Mary Ng to announce $25 million to create the world’s first ever 2SLGBTQI+ Entrepreneurship Program. At the Sticks Craft Beer Bar in Newmarket, alongside my fellow York Region Liberal members, I had the opportunity to talk about this ground-breaking Fund.
Samantha Rickford, the owner of the Sticks Craft Beer Bar, told us her story about opening her business as a queer entrepreneur and her fears about how that could impact her business.
The entrepreneurship program will be run by Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC). With strategic investments to address systemic barriers, we are creating a program that will deliver the resources, tools and data for more Canadians to succeed both at home and abroad.
It doesn’t matter who you love or how you identify, above all else, human rights, dignity and the promotion of inclusivity are vital to the success of our community and our youth.
