Making life more affordable for young Canadians

Young Canadians are increasingly concerned with the rising cost of education, the cost of housing, and finding a job. That’s why we’re taking action to make life more affordable.

Our government is permanently eliminating the interest on Canada Student Loans and Canada Apprentice Loans, saving an average student loan borrower $410 per year. We’re changing repayment terms so that students only need to repay their loans once they’re making at least $40,000 per year. We’ve doubled Canada Student Grants, so that current students can get up to $6,000 up-front to help with tuition, housing, and food costs. And we’re helping young people get the jobs and skills they need to succeed – including through Canada Summer Jobs.

We’re also:

  • Doubling the GST tax credit for six months, providing an extra $234 in the pockets of single Canadians, including students.
  • Delivering $500 to nearly 2 million low-income renters who are struggling with the cost of housing, including students.

By investing in young people today, we’re investing in Canada’s future, and building a strong economy for generations to come.
