Mental health is health. Our government recognizes the significant mental health challenges faced by youth, which have been exacerbated due to COVID-19. We’re making sure that young people in Canada are resilient and have the supports needed to succeed and not fall through the cracks. This includes supporting the invaluable community organizations across the nation that provide mental health resources to Canadians of all ages.
In Budget 2024, we tabled our plan to create a $500 million Youth Mental Health Fund, which would invest directly in community organizations to expand and strengthen their mental health resources geared toward youth in the community. It will help add capacity, fill gaps, and ensure youth have timely, safe, and culturally-appropriate support.
As our government works with stakeholders, we’re also asking for input from youth, families, service providers, and community partners through an online consultation. The consultation, which is a quick, fifteen-minute questionnaire, aims to create a better understanding of the needs in communities from coast to coast to coast.
I encourage everyone to participate in the consultation and let us know how we can help local organizations strengthen their resources. Together, we’re making sure young people have the tools they need to succeed and reach their full potential.
