Community Champion: Abuse Hurts

Since 1993, Abuse Hurts has worked tirelessly to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of abuse and violence across Newmarket-Aurora, and Canada.

Through education, Abuse Hurts’ goal is to raise awareness about the true cost of neglect and abuse. They currently support dozens of organizations that deal with thousands of women and children whose lives have been affected by violence.

We have learned a pandemic does not stop violence and the rates of domestic violence and abuse have been exacerbated as we take the appropriate steps to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. In these unprecedented times, Abuse Hurts has continued to be a trailblazer in our community and provide assistance for many in the Newmarket-Aurora area.

At the end of last year, Abuse Hurts was awarded the Not for Profit of the Year Award at the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards for their extraordinary work in supporting those in need in our community and adapting to a new way of working in these difficult times.

Ahead of Pink Shirt Day, Abuse Hurts is calling on our community members to help raise awareness and funds in their efforts to end cyberbullying.

Thank you,  Abuse Hurts, for ensuring that individuals and families are supported through these tough times.
