Newmarket Council and staff are guided by a strong vision, mission and values. While you as residents often see the tangible results of the hard work that is put in day in and day out – you may not be aware of what drives us. It is our vision to be a community that is well beyond the ordinary. This sense of wellness includes everything from creating and living a well-balanced lifestyle to being well-managed and well-equipped to deal with the ever changing world around us. This vision is what has helped us shape our Council strategic priorities, which is the blue print that will guide us until 2018 and beyond.
We have built a corporate culture that is based on respect and integrity, which are two of our core values. We respect each other and we respect the views and opinions of those in our community. Constructive dialogue when it is based on mutual respect has been very productive and has provided many great ideas with helpful insights for better solutions. We also foster an environment of continuous improvement which is reflected in our mission – making Newmarket even better. While we are very proud of the services we provide and our many accomplishments, we recognize that there is always room for improvement.
Accountability and accessibility are two more of the values that shape who we are and what we do. Our door is always open to hear your thoughts and suggestions on what we can do better. Each year I and members of Council have hundreds of conversations at various community events. We have many formal and informal avenues in place to seek feedback from our citizens – recognizing that ultimately you are the ones that make this community one of the best places to live in Canada.
This year we launched a Get Involved campaign to streamline all of the ways that you can be engaged in your community and have your voices heard. Following the Town on social media, attending public meetings or ward meetings, joining a Town Committee or making a deputation to Council are just a few of the ways you can Get Involved. As part of this campaign, I invite all Newmarket residents to join us at a Community Open House on December 3 at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall from 4 – 8:30 p.m. This grassroots gathering is our opportunity to share what we do at the Town. Our vision for the future of the community is shaped by the many plans, strategies and policies we have in place. This is the perfect time to provide feedback to Council and staff to help achieve our community goals.
Please visit the Town’s website to learn more about community engagement opportunities and how you can get involved. I look forward to seeing you on December 3rd and sharing thoughts and ideas about how we can continue to work together to make this extraordinary community even better.
