Message From Tony
I was in Ottawa for the election of the next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, and Canada’s Prime Minister. I am excited and confident in our party’s choice of Mark Carney. He has the experience, the leadership ability, and the vision for Canada to deliver on our country’s full economic potential while respecting and advancing our relationship with the environment.
As the former Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, he has navigated two of the world’s most influential economies through periods of significant global uncertainty. He has the academic foundation to complement his real-world expertise – equipping him with the knowledge and insight to address today’s complex challenges, while positioning Canada for long-term prosperity.
Our party has provided many social programs supporting families, senior citizens, and those with disabilities. We have moved forward on protecting the environment and securing the jobs of the green economy. But we also need to restore fiscal responsibility – Canadians expect nothing less. Our focus needs to be on building the economy for the 21st century. An economy that works for every Canadian while creating a path to economic prosperity. We need to create opportunities for success and celebrate accomplishment.
Mark Carney has the experience, the career insight, and the vision to deliver on the expectations of Canadians for a future that is brighter, fairer, and more open to all. I am excited by the possibilities.
Recognizing the selfless members of our community
Last week, I was honoured to celebrate and recognize the enormous contribution made by seven individuals to our community. The list of those recognized is impressive; the impact on our communities is immeasurable; and our thanks for all that you do is given with pride and hope. I am proud to be a member of such a wonderful place to work and live and hope of a future driven by kindness and opportunity for all.
In December, we recognized 20 recipients, and we were pleased to welcome them to our second ceremony. The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada.

To our King Charles III Coronation Medalists, congratulations on being recognized for your contributions. Without doubt you have made our communities better places to live – You have touched neighbours with kindness, provided support for those in need; inspired others to join a movement and demonstrated that regardless of age, we can make a positive difference in the lives of those around us. Your efforts have created a more connected community; a place to feel we belong all of which leads to better health and well-being.
I encourage you to continue making a positive difference, reach out to those in need and through the spirit of your actions let them know they are not alone. Let our communities continue to benefit from your generosity.
New Horizons for Seniors
The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program whose goal is to support projects led by and for seniors – meaningfully impacting communities and helping to improve seniors’ quality of life. Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program community-based funding, projects are eligible to receive up to $25,000 in grant funding.
I am pleased to hear that 15 organizations in Newmarket-Aurora have had their projects approved for funding, including:

Seniors-serving organizations across Canada play an invaluable role in helping seniors be socially engaged, contributing to their overall well-being and independence. Through the NHSP, we are investing in the quality of life of seniors, and for Canadian society as a whole.
Happy Francophonie Month!
March marks the annual celebration of Francophonie Month, of the French language, and the diversity of francophone culture. This culture is part of our common identity, our history, and has shaped our country as we know it today.
Throughout the month, we join Francophones and Francophiles in Canada and around the world in celebrating the French language. In Canada, Francophone communities are making tremendous contributions to our rich cultural heritage and our history. Our government will always be there to protect and promote French and support our official language minority communities.
Thanks to the modernization of the Official Languages Act and the announcement of record investments via the Action Plan on Official Languages, we are putting into action our commitments to Francophone communities.
Together, by celebrating our Francophone heritage, implementing bold policies, and by embracing our linguistic diversity, we are building a stronger, more inclusive Canada.
