Community Champion: Newmarket Chamber of Commerce

The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce (NCOC) reacted quickly to the first signs of shutdown. Since then, they have launched a long list of programs and initiatives, focused in three key areas: crisis, continuity, and recovery. Here are a few that continue to make a positive difference in our community.

The NCOC has partnered with the Town of Newmarket to form the Business Assistance Concierge (BAC). This is a one-stop support hub where businesses can find out what resources are available to them at the local, regional, provincial, and federal levels. BAC includes a Mentorship Assistance program, and has partnered with York University to create sector-specific round tables.

The Chamber is also hosting online networking sessions, along with weekly webinars that feature experts, Government representatives, and post secondary institutions. These include live Q&A to help businesses connect and navigate through this crisis.

E-commerce has become even more crucial to survive and prosper. The NCOC has created an online marketplace and an e-commerce platform to help businesses continue driving revenue during these challenging times.

The Spring Home & Lifestyle Show – postponed due to COVID-19 – has been strategic for many businesses. This year, a virtual Home & Lifestyle Show was held May 29-June 10 for those who would have otherwise missed the opportunity.

To connect local businesses with consumers, the NCOC has created a series of “What’s Open” Guides, and for those shut down by the pandemic, a Guide to Reopening. The NCOC has also partnered with the Vaughan Chamber and Region of York to create the YRBiz Back to Business Series – online sessions focused on business recovery, and the changing consumer and business landscape.
