Supporting Main Streets across Southern Ontario

Small businesses are a vital part of Newmarket-Aurora’s economic prosperity, and our government is committed to making strategic investments so that businesses, organizations, and communities can thrive. We’re investing $15 million for the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) to continue supporting main street businesses and communities across Southern Ontario through My Main Street (MMS).

MMS will support businesses through two streams:

  • The Business Sustainability stream will:
    • assist brick-and-mortar businesses located on main streets across southern Ontario;
    • support productivity enhancements through direct-to-business non-repayable contributions of up to $20,000;
    • be available to businesses that employ between 1 and 50 staff; and
    • provide a solid business case describing how the funding will strengthen their existing capacity and support their growth.
  • The Community Activator stream will:
    • assist community not-for-profit projects focused on high-impact placemaking activities;
    • provide non-repayable contributions of up to $250,000; and
    • support a variety of initiatives, such as events and festivals, community enhancements, and streetscape improvements.

This investment builds on a $23.25 million investment for the CUI and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) to support the recovery and revitalization of main streets across Southern Ontario after the pandemic. To date, we’ve supported nearly 4,000 businesses and organizations, over 6,000 jobs, and leveraged over $16 million in additional investment through MMS.

Virtual information sessions will be available for both MMS streams.

Applications for these streams will close on March 31, 2024.
